The origins of New Life Church can be traced to the summer of 1882, when a Jersey City pastor invited a Brooklyn pastor to begin another church, which became the First Baptist Church of Bayonne.
planted in the 19th century
The church was initially comprised of seventeen members who called a Mr. Folwell as the first church pastor, and soon after baptized its first converts in Newark Bay, beginning an encouraging period of slow and steady growth in a town with little evangelical representation.
One year later, the church moved into its first location on Broadway & 28th, followed a year later by the purchase of a lot in its present location, on the NE corner of 33rd & C.
Over the Years
God has always been faithful to this church, bringing it through seasons of fruitful growth and seasons of pruning. Today, New Life Church is both an old church and a young church; a church of singles, young families and seniors, prayerfully committed to making disciples of all nations, beginning here at home.
Bayonne has 65,000 people packed into three square miles. A densely-populated commuter town, the nations are here, and in dire need of the saving grace of Christ. The fields are white for harvest. (John 4:35)
